Mama Joss's Brownies

This is my favorite dessert to share. To add a sophistocated "after dinner" quality to the brownies, I will sometimes chop up a teaspoon or so of mint fresh from my herb garden and add it to the dry mix. My children come running when they hear it's brownie time. Four tongues lick a batter bowl pretty clean!

4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
3/4 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup your choice: chopped walnuts, pecans, m&ms or semi-sweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Microwave chocolate and butter in large bowl at HIGH for 2 minutes or until butter or margarine is melted.
Stir until chocolate is melted. Stir in sugar. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour and extras.
Spread in greased 13 x 9 inch pan for thinner brownies, or a greased 9 x 9 inch pan for thick, fudgey brownies. Bake for 35 minutes, or until a knife incerted in the center comes out clean.
